If anyone is looking at buying one of these be carful which one you buy. i reccommend going to the store and checking it out instead of buy this one off line. my friend bought one and the eye on the reel the moves back and forth to put the line on the spool doesnt work. i have one and the cintrifical brake knob is really hard to turn but other wise work good. its a shame that some of these are bad because they are a good super high speed reel for the price with a 7.1:1 gear ratio.

I also have fished plenty of BPS and pflueger reels.  Great reel but require some maintnace.  I would try cleaning that side plate.  I use Zippo lighter fluid it's in a yellow can.  then lightly lube with reel oil just a touch if you can see it is too much any question PM me ok.

If the level wind doesn't work, look under the reel at the bar with the worm gear that holds the level wind.  Turn it upside down, turn the crank.  If the bar with the crosshatch grooves IS turning, then the little pin inside the screw housing is too short, broken off, or the cover screw is loose.  If you can't figure this out, check with a fishing buddy that can help you.
